The ONYX UV disinfection system is equipped with a dedicated UV intensity sensor for real-time, accurate monitoring of UV radiation intensity typically 254nm wavelength at key locations within the disinfection reactor. This sensor is a core component for ensuring reliable disinfection and intelligent system control.
Introduction
1. Real-time Monitoring: Continuously measures UV radiation intensity at specific locations within a reactor or module (primarily targeting the 254nm germicidal wavelength).
2. Dose Calculation Basis: The controller combines sensor readings, flow meter signals, and water quality UV transmittance (UVT) data to calculate and display or output UV dose (mJ/cm²) in real time, a direct measure of disinfection effectiveness.
3. Lamp Performance Evaluation: Monitors lamp output intensity degradation to determine the end of lamp life (typically defined as 80% of the intensity of a new lamp), indicate replacement needs, and assess ballast operating status.
4. System Control and Alarms:
a) When the monitored intensity falls below a set safety threshold (or the calculated dose is insufficient), a low-intensity alarm (e.g., audible, visual, or remote signal) is triggered, indicating maintenance or system abnormalities.
b) In systems equipped with automatic adjustment, the sensor signal is the key basis for the ballast to automatically adjust lamp power (maintaining target dose).
c) It can assist in diagnosing issues such as lamp failure, ballast abnormalities, and quartz sleeve fouling.
