Application of Ultraviolet Disinfection Technology in Municipal Wastewater Treatment
Disinfection is the final, essential process in municipal wastewater treatment plants. It effectively kills pathogenic microorganisms (such as bacteria, viruses, and parasites) in wastewater, preventing the spread of disease, avoiding contamination of natural water bodies and soil, and safeguarding public health and ecological safety. It is an indispensable step in the wastewater treatment process. By the time wastewater enters the disinfection process, most organic matter and suspended solids have been removed, creating excellent water quality conditions for UV disinfection. UV disinfection processes have low investment and operating costs per unit of water volume, and UV disinfection ensures that the final discharged wastewater meets the various microbiological requirements of the receiving water.
There are two main types of UV disinfection systems used in municipal wastewater treatment plants:
Open-channel UV systems feature UV lamp modules installed horizontally or vertically in an open concrete channel, irradiating wastewater as it flows through the channel. Open-channel UV disinfection systems are the most commonly used disinfection method in wastewater treatment plants and are relatively easy to install and maintain.

Closed-Vessel UV System: This system places UV lamps inside a closed reactor (usually a stainless steel cylinder), through which wastewater flows under pressure for disinfection. Its advantages include a small footprint and the ability to operate under pressure. It is suitable for applications with relatively small treatment volumes, MBR process effluent, and underground wastewater treatment plants.

WSH UV Disinfection System
The ONYX-WSHI product is designed for channel installation and features a co-current lamp design with the water flow. It incorporates innovative technologies, including ballast water cooling, online mechanical cleaning, adjustable UV output intensity, and CFD flow simulation, significantly simplifying operation and maintenance.
The ONYX-WSHI complies with GB/T19837-2019, "Urban Water Supply and Drainage Ultraviolet Disinfection Equipment," and has passed microbial testing to verify that the UV dose meets the requirements for inactivating E. coli and fecal coliforms.
The Class A UV dose is >20mj/cm², and the recycled water UV dose is >80mj/cm².
WTV UV Disinfection Vertical System
The ONYX-WTV is designed for channel installation, featuring a lamp design perpendicular to the water flow. It incorporates innovative technologies, including online mechanical cleaning, adjustable UV output intensity, and CFD flow simulation, to reduce costs and significantly simplify operation and maintenance.
The ONYX-WTV complies with GB/T19837-2019, and has been verified through microbiological testing to demonstrate that the UV dose meets the requirements for inactivating E. coli and fecal coliforms.
The Class A UV dose is >20mj/cm², and the UV dose for reclaimed water is >80mj/cm².
ZL UV Disinfection System
The ONYX-ZL-SZ series features a pipeline design with polished interior and exterior surfaces. It utilizes UV reflection from the reactor's inner walls to enhance UV intensity. UV radiation kills bacteria and viruses in the water as it flows through it. The system's fully enclosed and compact design ensures effective disinfection.
The ONYX-ZL-SZ incorporates innovative technologies, including automated mechanical cleaning and CFD flow simulation, to reduce costs and significantly simplify operation and maintenance.
Clear Medium Pressure UV Disinfection System
The ONYX-Clear-SZ in-line medium-pressure UV sterilizer utilizes medium-pressure multi-spectral UV lamps to not only destroy DNA/RNA but also intracellular enzymes and proteins, resulting in more thorough sterilization. It is designed to disinfect and degrade toxic micropollutants in water, including NDMA, 1,4-dioxane, endocrine disruptors (EDCs), pesticide residues, cyanobacterial toxins, GSM (geosmin), and 2-MIB (dimethylisoborneol).
In addition, combining oxidants such as O₃ and H₂O₂ with UV light, such as UV-O₃ and UV-H₂O₂ processes, can be used to oxidatively remove recalcitrant substances and organic matter, such as CC14 and polyaminobiphenyls, from wastewater.
MOL Ceramic Plate CD Ozone Generator
The ONYX-MOL plate-type ozone generator features a modular design that allows for block-type assembly based on gas production capacity, resulting in a compact structure.
Utilizing high-purity aluminum-based ceramic electrodes and a highly resistant micro-arc oxidation process, the system delivers stable and reliable performance with an ultra-low attenuation rate. Uniform micro-gap high-frequency discharge delivers energy savings of 20-35%. The ozone concentration is adjustable from 0 to 240 mg/L, saving up to 40% oxygen.
The power-on auto-start design eliminates the need for manual intervention. It features self-diagnosis during operation, error handling, and intelligent recovery. Edge computing and cloud service coordination are integrated for operational status.
